After downloading windows 8 updates on Sept 4, I started experiencing problems with computer black screening then shutting down. Occasionally I would get kernel mode driver unresponsive recovery complete without shutdown. After considerable troubleshooting, I found this driver 355.82 to be defective. My machine is now running on a driver about a year old and doing fine. I went to Nvidia website, it appears I am not the only one having problems although the other people are mostly gamers which I am not. I sent a bug report to Nvidia. My graphics card is a gt610 nothing fancy.

The temps were fine on the computer. Only thing I did was uninstall device thru device manager did a reboot. windows 8 installed old driver. Driver is year old but works fine. Only thing, like to keep thing current on my computer. I did let computer run day and a half with old driver everything worked fine. I then reinstalled the 355.82 driver and let it run over night. The next morning problems started again with black screen etc. I now am running on old video driver and things are back to normal. I am not a gamer, I run 2 charts to keep track of stock market. Been doing it this way for 8 years, There was never a temp problem.

Well Windows put the most stable driver that exists thats why its 1 year old. Since you arent a Gamer then you are just fine you dont need new drivers
Thats fine however to me that driver should work in my computer as well as someone who is a gamer. In fact, i went to the Nvidia site and gamers are having trouble with this particular driver. I only wanted to make other people aware of the possibility and what the symptoms are.

I got on the phone with NVidia. They deleted all of my previous drivers and we reinstalled 355.82. !0 minutes later black out then shutdown. I downloaded the only driver that seems to work 340.52 all good again. I guess i just have to use the older driver. I heard windows 10 has some issues , gonna wait a few months before I install it until they get some bugs out.

So... I am the only one who doesnt have any issues am I? 
Basically you need to update to that driver if you want to play mtsv.or mad max they dont fix any other issues. But you should upgrade your driver for better optimization in the specific game or if you have any issue in your pc or if the driver's patch notes fix an issue you had or enable support for something you want
