Alright so I have two different monitors that only have DVI/VGA ports. I use those two connect to my GPU's (GTX 980 x 2)

Both of the monitors are connected on each of the GPU's. I have the SLI bridge connected. When I go to the nVidia control panel to enable SLI, the screen goes black and I can't see anything on one screen. I looked up on google and apparently in order to use SLI both monitors have to be connected to only the main GPU. Is that correct?

The reason why I connect it to different GPU's is because those cards only have 1 DVI port each. That's why :/

Yes you need to connect everything to the master card, basically when you SLI more than one card the other cards become slave cards that just add to your processing might effectively. I don't have a massive amount of experience with SLI / Crossfire setups so someone might be able to give you a more definitive answer.

OR connect the hdmi to your gpu and with dvi to the monitor with this
( http://www.ebay.com/itm/6ft-Gold-24-1-DVI-D-Male-to-HDMI-Male-Cable-for-HDTV-HD-/300571293832?hash=item45fb71f888)

In that way you will use the one hdmi port and the one dvi Problem solved

Got it, the link above was VGA. This is 2 DVI's and I t hink that's perfect. But I am going to hold off on this purchase because I am looking into buying 2 4k monitors around black Friday. Thanks for this info. It cleared up the info on SLI for me. I was getting black screen when I enabled SLI. That scared me because I had to manually shut down the PC. :/

Yup, I have option selected as "Activate all displays"

The reason why I noticed why my SLI wasn't working was because only one card was being utilized while playing games and I panicked. So i started looking up info on SLI and thank you all for clearing up this info.

Yes I did and that's awesome. But I will wait for my new 4k monitors at the end of the year and then I'll start using SLI

These cards are amazing. I love my GTX980's. The fans don't start spinning till they reach 60 Degrees. That's so cool :D

Yup, already seen it. I would love to do a triple monitor set up, but you also have to look at your budget and the desk space area that will get consumed. I have a Computer desk that is 42 inches wide. So triple 4k wouldn't do unless I turn them vertically. I will go for 2 4k monitors instead and see how that goes. :D

Just can't figure out what monitors should I get it. I want to spend no more than 700-800 dollars total. They are really expensive
