I've been considering getting a second 970 for my system using a BitFenix Phenom case but worried about heating issues.

I currently have a OCUK Reference Design 970 and would buy another of those for my system is the heating issue going to be a big problem or am I likely over reacting?

Would have to upgrade my PSU as currently only have a 550W assume a 750W would be fine for SLI?

Solution

if you are not overclocking , 600 WATTS is more than enough for 2x GTX 970

if you are overclocking you will need 100-150 watts more .. that is 750 watts.

I run dual 970's. I did the same thing you did and had a single card then upgraded to 2x SLI. I run a cross desk and have noticed a ton more heat. I dont think you would have a problem but do expect the case to get warm. I did upgrade my fans to move more air and was fine, I would suggest the same for you. New, qualiry fans can make a huge difference.

As for the PSU, I run a Corsair 750w now and it runs like a champ.

Are you referring to Graphic Card over clocking or CPU Overclocking ? I don't do either at present but might consider the former.

GTX 970 runs at 150 watts TDP ... if OC will reach around 200 each ...

the CPU OC is included dont worry.
