Hello everyone! I ordered some PC parts from Newegg.ca. All of my components except for my case shipped from Mississauga. They took three days to arrive. My case, however, is shipping from in the USA. To be more specific, it is coming from LAX, Los Angeles. Usually stuff from California to Montreal, Canada can take a week to 2 weeks. I'm impatient.

So I was thinking, is there a TEMPORARY way to use my PC parts and play some games WITHOUT a case?

Another alternative is that I have a case from a more than 10 year old PC. The case is for a Dell Dimension E521. Could I use this temporarily as a gaming case? Like a week or two? My motherboard is of a MicroATX form. My graphics card is an EVGA GTX 760 Ti 4GB VRAM.

Thanks! :)

you can set it up without a case, just make sure the area is safe (not easily accessible to pets, or small children). on top of a wooden table works best (is non conductive and static neutral)
just short the power switch pins on the motherboard with a screwdriver to power it on.

I have a dog that is allowed in my room, but he cannot reach my desk, thankfully. Are there any precautions? Could powering it on the top of my desk harm the components in the long run? Also, out of curiosity, this wouldn't be affected by heat? Right? It would actually help cooling without a case, correct?
Thanks!

My door to my room stays shut at all times. The only time an animal can come in, is when I go to bed, my dog sleeps in my bed. He's short and my desk is pretty tall. I'm not worried of him getting to my parts. My cats though, I never allow them in my room. My room is pretty clean. :)

When I'm testing a motherboard I put it on a table and use a large phone book that way I can plug the cards in and they can seat well without issue. Do you have a switch from an old case you can connect to the motherboard to turn your "computer" on and off? As for your dog I'd make other sleep arrangements for him until your case comes. Don't take a chance on him or her finding away to investigate what your doing on your desk. Tell your family what your are doing and be sure all know to keep your dog out of your room if you are going to do this period. If you can't do that then wait for the case.
