Now my issue is for some reason i can only plug one thing into it i have it connected to my router (which is a D-Link (DIR-880L)) in the first port and my gaming pc is connected on the second. now on the router itself i have the switch, my brothers pc, a mac, and our printer. I would like to get a media pc for our living room and to plug my gaming consoles into the switch but every time i plug another Ethernet cable into the switch the activity light stays off and the orange light turns on. Now obviously I am not a pro at this which is why I'm asking you all so what am i doing wrong here?

Both the amber and green lights on each port indicate status and activity.

The green light indicates a 1Gbs negotiation and blinks for activity.
The amber, 10/100Mbs; blinks for activity.
Only one light will be lit for each port depending on the negotiated connection speed, not both.

So the switch has established a 10/100Mbs connection with the device. Is it blinking to indicate activity as well?

well now i understand that but the issue is that the other end isn't actually receiving anything as in the light will show on the switch but not my pc or consoles so what is the problem with that it isn't the cables as i have bought 2 more to check and unless i got 3 bad cables I have no clue also the switch did at one point work just fine but a few weeks after i got it it decided to only work with one thing plugged in
