So I just recently decided to upgrade my pc from an Asus Sabertooth x58/i7 950 to an Asus z170-A/i5 6600k with 16 gigs of ddr4 2666 mhz ram. Using WIndows 7 Ultimate 64.

I just did the install last night and it seems like I've noticed many bugs or problems. For example there are 2 different switches on the motherboard for overclocking that you are suppose to engage if you wish to overclock. One for the cpu and one for the ram. If I engage the cpu one its fine, but if I engage the ram one the system wont boot it will just keep restarting. Also with just the cpu switch engaged, using the factory overclock preset which clocks the processor at 4.1 ghz the system will become unstable and hang up under heavy use and sometimes it wont boot up. Also the ram is suppose to be at a factory clock of 2666 mhz the motherboard will only clock it at 2400 mhz and if I try and change it higher the system wont start it just goes into an endless boot loop.

Some other ones I have noticed is lots of bugs in windows like applications crashing to the extreme where I couldn't even open the "my computer" window to get to my c: drive. Can't play any games they all crash on bootup. So like if I try to play mad max it shows the splash screen then crashes it does this for every game I have installed which is like 3 at the moment.

I have updated the bios to the latest verison which seems to have done nothing.
I have updated windows, and all my drivers including the gpu drivers.
I have switched out gpus, in my old system I had 2 - gtx 970's in sli so I tried both cards individually.

I'm not sure what to think? I guess my next attempt will be to reinstall windows but I wanted some input first thanks!

The switches are not compulsory if you want to overclock, it just something automated for the end user to use with a button. But I would still recommend learning to overclock in the BIOS manually.
If you can boot into the BIOS, setup to Load Optimized defaults and save and exit. The ram is rated to be able to run at 2666mhz but it won't run it natively, you would need to mess with the BIOS settings to get it to run.
Did you do a complete clean install of windows? If not, I would recommend you should do as you may have some driver issues which may lead to the issues you currently have.

Ok thanks yes I did a fresh install of windows. I'm planning on reinstalling windows again tonight to see if by chance it makes things run better. I still don't understand why I can't play any games? I find that really troublesome.
