Recently went from a gtx 580 to a gtx 980ti superclocked

To my surprise my performance decreased and I'm greatly frustrated.

I can't even run gta 4 over 40fps when a single standard 980 gets over 80.

Windows 7, 64 but
Gtx 980 ti superclocked Eva
8 gb Kingston Ram
120gb Samsung Evo SSD
2tb black wd HDD
Intel 2700k @3.4ghz
800 w corsair
Asus P8Z68-V Motherboard.

I recently installed windows and did a clean instalation of the 980ti drivers. Not sure if I need to download any other drivers for my system since I JUST installed windows 7 64bjt and it's naked.

Also , if it even matters, my windows is installed in my ssd and my games on the hdd.

So what do you suggest about his problem then?

Well what im suspecting is
His processor = 5 years ago
His GPU = 1 months ago.

And i suppose its bottlenecking the CPU.

Well he can check by using some programs to see the Heat actually.

Woots my bad. Its 2700k lmao.
3 years ago.

Well, the problem came after he input his GPU GTX 980 Ti.

i7 2700K can reach 4.8Ghz easy and one of the few cpu that could reach 5ghz without problems...

it is no way the reason. it is a good cpu.

Updating bios won't help.
Because it happen in all of his games not "Several"

Also GTA 4 is last year games. Shouldn't be a BIOS or Driver problem. GTX 980 Ti is 1 months old card

Anyway my bad then ignore me.
I miss read. I tho its I7 720.

Let me guess for a start with your rig ... your PSU Is a Corsair CX ??? that is a really low quality series of PSU and no gaming enthusiast should have one. We do not reccomend it here on tomshardawre. Refer to the PSU tier list. Apologies if you aren't in the CX series, just making sure ... http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/id-2547993/psu-tier-list.html

Also how old is your RAM ... most games require 8GB Ram now and soon 12GB ... would reccomend upgrading to 16GB Ram ... either another 8gb stick of the safe RAM, or whole new kit. Check below for my reccomendation:
G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2x8GB) 1866 http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/part/gskill-memory-f314900cl10d16gbxl 69.72GBP right now ... bargain :p

DO NOT UPGRADE YOUR CPU! It is the top of the line 32 nanometer Core i 2nd Generation Quad Core processor.
I reccomend overclocking your CPU if you are not already.
Refer to this temperature guideline when overclocking cpu.
http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/id-1800828/intel-temperature-guide.html
and try not let the vcore go over 1.3 and try not let the temps go over 80 basically :p

You obviously don't know nothing about CPU's or gaming ...

lol you are a guessing person ...

Bios update is needed because the card is PCI express 3.0 and his Motherboard/CPU is older PCie 2.0
his older GTX 580 was PCIe 2.0

he mite need Bios update for ALL PCIe 3.0 cards to work on his mobo. does not matter if 1 month old or 2 years old.

GOT IT ?

@sna

Even if the 980Ti is signalling at PCIE2.0 rates, it shouldn't bottleneck this badly considering it's running single-GPU.
Either way, I agree that it is most likely an outdated BIOS issue because of the vastly different years the products were made, though technically speaking, his hardware should work together very well.

One thing I have to confirm with OP, though:
Is the problem only with GTA or all your games?

It is not about the rates , I think it is about the switching between the lanes and modes 1.0 , 2.0 , 3.0 , 8x , 16x , 4x .... things like that.

Every generation of PCIE runs at double the speed of the previous gen, meaning:
PCIE2 vs PCIE3
16x = 8x = 8GB/s
8x = 4x = 4GB/s
4x = 2x = 2GB/s

And PCIE3 16x would be 16GB/s.
I don't really see how running PCIE2 x16 would be a significant bottleneck, unless the board firmware is so old that it drops the 980Ti to something like PCIE x8 which is unsupported by the GPU (Nvidia certifies cards to work at a minimum of PCIE3 x8 only, so you would need to be running PCIE2 x16 or PCIE3 x8/x16.)

Once again, I'd say you have the right direction with the motherboard BIOS being the issue. It's probably too old to recognise the 980Ti properly.

I know this information already , the bottleneck can happen from not opening all the lanes got it ?

anyways , he should upgrade his bios ... he never installed new card in there at all.

edit : one more thing , the card wont run in SLI in lower than 8X ..

but in single card it would run even at 4x lanes ...

When you say upgrade, do you mean buy a new motherboard or just update the one I own

Thank You for being so helpful, I have one last question, there are 7 different types of updates regarding different specific functions, which one of the 7 would be guided towards the improvement of the compatibility of my gfx card?

https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P8Z68V/HelpDesk_Download/

(windows 7 64 bit, BIOS section)
