Hello kind people,

I'm hoping to build a new PC in the coming weeks and I'm starting to lock down some of the components. Before I go ahead and do anything, some expert opinions would be awesome.

Mobo: Asus Z170-A
CPU: 6600k
RAM: 16GB Corsair Vengeance
Case: Coolermaster Cosmos SE
PSU: 850w Corsair CX850M
GPU: 8GB Sapphire R9 390
Cooler: Coolermaster Hyper 212

Those are the basics of the system. I have a bunch of HDDs and SSDs which I'll use, and all the other little attendant things like PCI cards, sound, and so on I already have on my current computer and will cannibalise for this one. I guess I just want to know if there are any obvious bottlenecks or stupid decisions before I go ahead and order.

Any help you could provide would be much appreciated.

PSU Tier List

Corsair CX Series is in Tier 4, almost the most bad Tier
"
Tier Four
No Japanese capacitors found. Only Taiwanese capacitors and may even include Chinese capacitors. Very basic safety circuits or even thin gauge wiring used. Not for gaming rigs or overclocking systems of any kind. Avoid unless your budget dictates your choice.
"
I recommend you something from Super Flower or Seasonic Gold or higher edition.

Is this board and cpu correct? (I ask, because there is an AMD processor with same name 6600k too.)

If you do music production, then I assume that you would benefit from many cores or at least hyper threading. I would add around 100 dollar to the cpu and buy this instead, it is faster (4 GHz over 3.5 Ghz) and it have hyper threading. Its like 8 cores in programming and some applications (especially multimedia production) will benefit from it.

Hi guys, thank you for your opinions. I've taken them on board and changed the PSU to the EVGA Supernova G2. It's only £20 more expensive so it seems like a fair trade-off. Also, yes, I meant the i5 6600k rather than the AMD one; apologies, I should have made that clear.

As far as music production goes, I'm very much a neophyte and it doesn't demand a massive amount of processing power. It runs fine on my current system which is significantly less powerful than the one I'm proposing. I would probably take your advice if I could spare the extra money for the i7; however, it remains an upgrade option in the future if I ever find that the i5 isn't sufficient any longer.

I didn't know about the PSU tier list, which is awesome and incredibly helpful, so many thanks for the recommendation!
