Hello, there has been a lot of controversy regarding the s5 speaker and how tinny and quiet it is, o really hope that these are audiophiles speaking as I plan on buying the s5 snd that's the only thing turning me off, it may be a bad reference as Mobile phones and tablets are completely different but I have an iPad 2 and am used to its speaker, how would the s5 fair out against the iPad 2s speakers in both loudness and clarity for those who have experienced both.

Is their another waterproof phone for a decent price that can out do the s5 cause I've looked everywhere and can't find much. I don't want to spend heaps like say the z3 but am looking to spend around $500 Aus on one. All help is much appreciated.

The speaker on the S5 functions as well as you could hope a tiny high output speaker to perform, don't expect much low end out of it. If you want quality audio out of the S5, simply use headphones. For Speaker-phone use, I find the S5 speaker performs as expected. My kids annoy me with it on a daily basis, from a different room, so it must not be -that- quiet.

Sorry, I have no experience with iPad audio, but its speaker is probably larger being from a tablet.

If you are truly concerned, before you purchase one, go to a phone dealer and test it out for yourself, this should not be an issue.

It really depends on what you plan on running through the speaker, I find it acceptable for voice communication, I would however not want to listen to music through it for long, but I am an audio technician, and somewhat picky when it comes to music quality.

After playing a song through the speaker, it is actually not bad in terms of quality, better than I had initially thought. Its loud enough to be somewhat painful at a distance of about a foot, and covers more frequency range than I had initially expected, just don't expect any form of bass from it.

My Nexus 10 sounds vastly better however.
