Upgrading my PC and have run into an issue. I shut off the working PC Tuesday when the new goodness from Amazon Prime showed up. Case is a few year old Antec Sonata 3 with their 500w PSU. Pulled the old mobo with CPU and RAM on it, installed the new one (Asus Z97-a mobo, 4690k CPU, GSkill RAM). Plugged everything in to the new board, got the green power light on the mobo, hit the power switch and - nothing.
Ran through several iterations of trying to get it to post - no RAM, minimal things plugged in to mobo, still nothing. At one point when I had the RAM pulled, the CPU fan would spin a couple rotations when I would hit the power, but nothing more. Finally figure I must have a bad part in the new pieces, so I pull everything out and install all the old stuff, got the LED on the mobo on and - same thing, no post.
I've been troubleshooting in my head and have it narrowed down to either the PSU or the power switch, but that's just my guess, I would love more input. I don't know if the PSU can light the motherboard LED but still not provide CPU power or what's up. My plan it to try borrow a known good PSU from a friend and try that, narrow it down to maybe the power button, but the button randomly going bad seems very unlikely. Any other thoughts? Thanks.
