Hello all, I am at the moment looking at getting the fx 8370e 3.3 ghz cpu and a r9 380 4gb gpu. The reason for that weird cpu is that my mobo, being old and me not wanting to spend another 100 for a new one, can only handle the 95 watt power after thoroughly researching it. It's the asrock 970 extreme3. But now to my question. Is this upgrade going to be good for modern and future gaming on high settings? Let me add this bit too: I am not gaming at 1040p but 1600x900 screen and don't have any desire to get a new monitor as it is big enough for me. So at that resolution, is this set up going to handle high end game settings? Or do I need to upgrade further, or consequently since I wouldn't mind saving money, am I over performing for my monitor set up and could go for cheaper parts? Thanks!

So even though my resolution is low and I could get by on the cheaper gpu as you recommended, would I however be at a loss when it comes to all the bells and whistles in the graphics setting of a game. Like high AA or physics since the card is weaker than higher end? Or since my resolution is lower could I crank those settings up too and not see low fps? Also for the gpu, would going 6 core with higher ghz be better than 8core with lower ghz, or are they incomparable and clock speed not matter?

As far as the CPU choice I'd go for the fx 6300 because it's cheaper and it won't bottleneck your GPU.
On the GPU side the GTX 950 should handle welll your resolution ,I mean in some games you would be able to max out in others you will need to lower your settings a bit, but the overall performance of the card will be great
