Hi everybody...Ive been using Tom's Hardware since the beginning of my first pc build. I can say there is a lot of info on here that has helped me
out.

My next problem that I have run into is my H97 PRO4 does not detect the dvd/hdd/ssd. After my build I do have BIOS which is a good sign but no drivers. I noticed there is 6 SATA ports I may just have that wrong.

Also, not sure what to do during BIOS. I have software from asrock, evga. I dont know how to download windows 8.1. Im reading in the manual that there is something special with 8.1 and this MB.

So anyways, in a nutshell I can see the light at the end of tunnel. But Im stuck at the operating system. Here is my system build if it helps.

on the sata ports look in the mb user guiild that came with the mb or on the mb cd disk. there numbered 0-6 also check to see if your mb has 3 party sata ports. if yours does make sure nothing plugged into them. there made for data drives only. with the sata ports put the ssd on port 0 the hard drive one 1 and the cd rom on any other open port.
go into the bios make sure the sata ports are turned on and set to achi mode. if they are and the cables are locked in on both ends all the drives should show up in the bios under the boot tab. there be two made tabs one for cd roms and one for hard drives. set the cd rom if your booting from cd rom for the os install. as the first boot device. also in the bios set your ram to xmp profile one. with sata drives there should be two cables. one is the data the other is power if not the drives wont work.

Looking at my MB diagram Im not too sure what you mean by 3 party sata ports. Couldnt find them. My MB only came with 2 SATA cables so how would I plug in the cd rom? So far under Boot I have -

Fast Boot
Boot From Onboard LAN
Setup Prompt Timeout
Bootup Num-Lock
Boot Beep
Full Screen Logo
AddOn ROM Display
Boot Failure Guard
Boot Failure Guard Count

Would this be correct for the H97 PRO BIOS ? Out of those options I dont know where to look for the SATA ports.

if you plugged the cd rom and hard drive into port 0-1 on the mb your fine. for the sata chipset it be under onboard devices.....sata.....achi...other setting for the ports are ide and raid.
fast boot is a setting to speed up boot speed with an ssd. if it on most time you have to use a e party program to boot into the bios beccause the mb boot so fast it wont see the keyboard hits before windows loads.
boot from onboard lan...disabled.
cd rom and hard drive. use one data cable and need one power cable from the power supply.
when you school down it should say boot device order ....main menu says cd-rom then one for hhd boot.

Ok...so I reboot and I get message of " Reboot and Select proper Boot device or insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key. " Lost BIOS when I boot up. May brain may be fried but still not sure on the cd rom. 3 drivers (dvd, hdd, ssd), but only two sata cables. Also only two power cables. Right now Im using both sata and power cables on the hdd and ssd. The cd rom does not have anything hooked up to it.

Well Im gonna go ahead and call it a day. I appreciate the help you gave me smorizio. You pointed me in the right direction with BIOS and Operation System. Im not there yet, but its a start. Im wondering, should I go to the local electronic shop and get extra pair of sata cables? Possibly solve the cd rom problem? Thanks.
