New build, recent freezing during gameplay. Is my PSU sufficient?

Hi all, I just finished my first build about a week ago and I couldn't be happier with it. I am however running into an issue playing a game and while it may be a bug with the latest patch, I'm new to this and need some help diagnosing a potential problem.

Windows 8.1 64bit Professional
AMD Phenom II X4 820 CPU
ASUS M5A97 R2.0 Motherboard
ASUS Radeon R7 360 GPU
EVGA 8GB 1600 C9 DDR3 (4GBx2) RAM
EVGA 500W 80B PSU

My GPU has a minimum 500W power supply recommendation which is why I am asking this question. I was told it would be more than enough but now I am having my doubts. My concern stems from problems with Rome 2 Total War. The game ran on the highest settings flawlessly for almost a week with no problems whatsoever and now freezes during gameplay and I'm forced to restart. Computer boots up every time after restart with no issue, I just can't play the game. I know a lot of people have trouble with the most recent patches and I suspect that it is the game and not my system's capabilities. I have had no problems up until two days ago and the computer has only been completed for a week. I'm not overclocking anything and I am running on the ASUS optimized default settings in bios. I am planning on going and exchanging the PSU tomorrow for a larger one but some feedback to possibly save me some trial and error would be awesome! Thanks!

Unless your PSU is faulty, it's not going to be the problem. The minimum PSU requirements are always way more then what is actually required, they just want to play it safe. If it's only the one game that causes your computer to crash, then it's probably safe to say there is something about that game which is causing the problem....as you said, it could be the latest patch.

Thanks pete_101 for the response. I'm happy to hear that the power supply is adequate but alas, a new caveat. The computer froze twice outside of the game earlier today after I restarted following the in game malfunctions. Both times right before freezing the CPU fan raced for a short time and then it went silent and then the system froze. I waited about an hour in between starts to run the game because I was worried about overheating. Even though AMD overdrive had the CPU temp as hovering around 45-47 degrees Celsius in game before freeze both times. After the second freeze I was worried about potential damage to the system and I haven't tried the game since. The HDD indicator LED stayed solid both times. I haven't messed with anything in bios and everything was working without fault for almost a week. I'm on the computer and as I type everything is fine, running cool and quiet. Problems only seem to arise following restart of the game. Would running a stability test provide any useful information? I'm definitely not going to start up that game again until this is figured out because now it seems to be leaning towards a system issue. I would be grateful to provide to the minds out here any and all information about my system to help solve this problem! Thanks!

So the crashes earlier in the day were after playing the game, right? You could try a stability test, run the game for a bit and exit before any crashes happen...unless you have someway of retrieving the test results following a crash. As for your CPU fan going full and then stopping, it all points to your system being affected by something that's incompatible.
