When pinging google.com it goes at a normal speed and every 30 seconds to a minute it spikes to 200ms-500ms then down to normal speed then back up to 200-500ms. This only happens on my computer.
I have two WiFi adapters that I have tried using. The one I bough hoping to fix the problem is the one I described and the one that came with my computer spikes to 1k+ms and back down right away.
The one I bought is a TP Link TL-WDN4800 WiFi adapter and my on board adapter is a 802.11n ralink adapter that came pre installed on the computer. I have checked my drivers and updated them. Anyone have any idea whats going on?

my info is:
netgear router with a netgear extender not sure of make or model
my computer was prebuilt hp gaming desktop
model: h8-1360t
two wifi adapters: 1.TP Link TL-WDN4800
2. 802.11n ralink adapter
Operating system: Windows 10
My isp is Comcast and the type is cable
I have 4 things usually connected to my router if not a few more

Solution
No problem at all, yeah I utilize Wifi. But during my troubleshooting process I hooked up a CAT5 cable to both my laptop and my desktop. My laptop was getting 32ms returns where as my desktop was getting 172ms. If you are currently running nothing but Windows defender I highly recommend doing a system scan with "Malwarebytes" free suite.

Hello end user! If the solution to your problem has not still not been found please try the following if you are using ANY type of virus protection software. For the fix and not the story scroll down.

- I first noticed the issue when I was playing an online game, my ping started spiking and would not go back down. At first I was 100% that I was either being DDOSd or I had some how managed to get malware.

Using "ping google.com -t" I was getting 176ms-600ms returns.

*I utilize 2 different security software clients*
-Malwarebytes Premium
-AVAST Premium

After confirming that my computer was not infected by anything Malicious I continued to monitor my network activity using AVAST. I began to notice immediately that AVAST was the most active process on the network.
Using the process of elimination I was able to find out that a special security feature included with AVAST known as "Secure DNS" was causing my extremely high response times. After disabling just that one feature I have not had a problem.

*********************FIX************************

-Use the process of elimination by disabling one feature at a time to find out if any of your security software features are causing the issue.

hmm didn't seem to work. Unless im looking in the wrong spot there is not many settings to turn on or off for windows defender. I tried to mess around with what I saw but there was not many options. I was thinking of just getting a wired connection but that is a real pain in the butt since ill have to run a cable outside to my room. Any other suggestions? If not thanks for trying to help!! :)
