My PC won't connect to a router via ethernet cable?

I just built a pc and installed windows. I didn't bother buying a wifi pci-e card because I had a ethernet cable directed to my room. When I finished installation I expected it to connect automatically, however it didn't. When I go into the settings it doesn't even give me an option for ethernet connection. It also says that "windows did not detect any networking hardware".
You might be able to tell I am not an experienced windows user, I have been using OS X up until now.
Thank you in advance :)

You need to install your motherboard drivers, and will likely either need to use a CD that came with the motherboard, or download them from another PC. If you use a CD that has them, update the drivers after you're able to connect to the internet.

No problem. Get the LAN driver ver: 20.2 on this page and install it. You might want to grab the other drivers on this page as well if you haven't already installed them. THESE ARE WINDOWS 10 64 BIT DRIVERS if you have a different os let me know and I will direct you to a different page.

O.K. My network problem is solved!! I have windows 7. However When I try to open a game, a little window pops up saying "failed to initialise player" And to update my graphic drivers, I am using integrated graphics on my i5 4460, where can I download this? When I use my CD for drivers, it messes up Windows. And I would have to reinstall windows for the 3rd time.
