I have tried every compatibility setting available, and I've tried editing the options.ini file to get the game to function.
It simply loads the splash screen and the hangs, seemingly indefinitely (15 minutes+)

I love the game but am unable to get it to run, it didn't work on Windows 8.1 x64 (before I upgraded to 10) either.
Im at a loss. Any help?

According to this thread(http://answers.ea.com/t5/C-C-The-Ultimate-Collection/Command-and-Conquer-Generals-Zero-Hour-Windows-10/td-p/4701341), the issue is caused by the SecuROM driver included with C&C Generals.
So to solve that issue you have to bypass SecuROM by using a no-cd patch on more recent Windows versions.

Uh, CD. And Yes I know the conflict with Origin, I uninstalled Origin once hoping it would work, but no luck

SecuROM. So I just get a No CD Crack/patch and it should work? Ill give it a shot right now

I get this message now, after a few minutes of the hanging -
"You have encountered a serious error. serious errors can be caused by many things including viruses, overheated hardware and hardware that does not meet the minimum specifications"

I have no viruses. I run Kaspersky, update it regularly and haven't noticed any unusual behavior
All my system temps are well below normal
And I run hardware that's overkill for this game with all the drivers updated

Last time I tried to run Generals on Win 8.1, only Zero Hour worked.
Try running it with a no-cd patch and see if the issue remains.

Sorry, but open discussions about bypassing a game's copy protection is not allowed; especially when talking about No CD patches / executables. While you may own the actual game disc it is still not allowed.

You just need to accept the possibility that old games may not work with new operating systems.

Here is a quote and link to EA's help forum to a question regarding C&C running on Window 8.1. Whether that will work with Win 10, I guess you will find out....
