The cooler for an Intel CPU. I just got a i7 4790K and the cooler fins are 1/3rd the size of the i5 4460 I replaced. I used the old cooler with new paste of course. Any idea why Intel would use a much smaller heat sync/cooler?? It baffles me.

Sorry you think I am fooling but I use this PC for my Music studio ONLY. Since much of the music is emulated it takes a lot of power to keep clicks and pops out of the recording session and/or latency. It only cost $30.00 more for the K so I bought it just in case, but I have doubts of ever going above 4 ghz. The i5 4460 was only failing on songs with several tracks so I figure the 4790 is fine but for $30.00 why not get the K. So, no I don't expect to go to water cooling like I am with my main computer. The fact that the fins are 5/8" wide versus 1 1/4" really baffles me but I have pics to prove it. I did go with the older bigger heat sync, but maybe there is a reason Intel would use the smaller sync so I am asking, somebody may know why this was done. I haven't turned it on yet.

I bought a cheaper PC (I am not an Apple fan) after 8 months of the Mac I had had it. I found out I should have bought a bit more power. I wish I could post a picture, I have a photo of the 2 coolers side by side and there a a big difference. So much so I thought some of the guys on this forum that do a lot of building PCs would find it interesting. I have it running now at 4.0 ghz and NO clicks on my first tracking, that was a good test song so I think I made the right choice the 2nd time around. The new one has no fan shroud like the one on the i5 4460 and the fins are a lot bigger not in diameter but in height. 3 times the cooling area at least. Thanks.
