Exhaust Fan Making Funny Shaking Noise

My exhaust fan started randomly making an irritating chattering noise, unless I smack it lightly. Even if I do that, it'll start again. Nothing's poking between it.

How old is it? Its bearings may be wearing out.

The bearings are most likely going bad if it is making that noise. Easiest solution is to find a similar sized fan from a decent brand and replace it.

It's a new case, but I haven't checked if it's coming loose.

Well then the question is what case is it? It should be under some sort of warranty then.

Make sure though that there is nothing sitting in the fan blades.

Time to replace/RMA it if not dirty or obstructed in some manner... I've had several sleeve-bearing fans do this and have since steered clear of this design on all of my fans, as they have a lower life span as compared to other designs such as fluid dynamic or hydro type bearing fans.

Looks like one of the bolts was coming loose. One of them wasn't tight enough.

Alright, well every now and then the noise comes back and sometimes becomes louder tan usual. I double checked to see if any wires were in the way, it was clear.

I suggest contacting the case manufacture then. Seems like you have a fan that is probably failing.
