Will an Inspiron 3847 work with a Corsair CX750?

Bought a Inspiron 3847 on eBay that won't boot or power on. Completely dead. Not sure if PSU, Cpu, Mobo, or even power button. I5 processor and good case, dvdrw, and wifi, so I'd like to get it running. Advice welcome.

That is good to know.

Any PSU will fit. Do you have any stores like Frys, Microcenter or Best Buy, or similar near you, so you can buy PSU, try and return easy if doesn't work? I would recommend going this way first, before choosing a good PSU.
This is general PSU quality recommendations http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-2547993/psu-tier-list.html

We would have to basically troubleshoot all components one by one. Even if new PSU would not work, post back with results, so we can start troubleshooting components with new PSU.

I had an opportunity to do some more poking around today and took the PSU and plugged it into a different Dell I'm also refurbing, and it started just fine. The memory is fine, PSU is fine, and so I'm on to the mobo and/or processor. I'll keep you posted. Any other direction to look?
Thanks for the looks and answers and thanks in advance for future help and advice. Great forum source.

First component is working, very good.

Place it back, make sure all connectors are tight, don't miss 4 pin one. When you connect, look for a small tiny light on motherboard, could be green or amber, is there any, don't know exact location.
Check if RAM is sitting tight and side locks are in locked position.

Does PC omit any beeps, when power button is pressed?

That is going to be fun, I hope you got it for cheap.

No beeps or light from the power button. But with a different mobo hooked up - not the right one for this pc - does give me an amber light on the power button. I didn't have a processor or ram or anything hooked up - just the psu and mobo.

I'm thinking the complete disconnect between the psu and power button is the mobo, not the processor.

I'm taking the mobo to work where I have another Inspiron 3847. I'll intermingle parts and see what I can deduce.

As to whether I go it cheap - $125. i5 processor (3.1 gHz), 8GB ram, 1TB HDD, DVDRW, mouse and kb. New they are about $500-550. If I can pop in a mobo for under $100 and have it running, that's a good day.

Well you paid for RAM and HDD full price, the rest is on top.

Sounds like motherboard issue to me, if indeed PSU is working. However, could be CPU, if it overheated big time.

Do you have any CPU of this socket to try? Connect CPU cooler fan and exhaust fan to motherboard - Dell would not start if those are missing, use house fan to cool CPU for a few minutes, while testing.

And the motherboard was toast and now the fans and power and all work ..... but the cpu was also apparently toast, so now I am shopping for a LGA1150 processor. This was an i5-4460 3.2 GHz. Not sure if I want to pop for the replacement, but in for a penny, in for a whole lot more pennies.

Those ones are guaranteed to work:

M6F2X Haswell i7-4770 (3.40GHz, 86W, LGA)
RXHF8 Haswell i5-4670 (3.40GHz, 86W, 4C)
KR2TG Haswell i5-4570 (3.20GHz, 86W, 4C, LGA)
F3VXR Haswell i5-4440 (3.10GHz, 95W, L, C0)
P5FJT Haswell i3-4130 (3.40GHz, 65W, L)

Add i7-4790K, i3-4150 http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/desktop/f/3514/p/19620340/20734654#20734654
The rest I can not confirm nor deny.
