Computer keeps freezing, can't figure out why

So a while back my MOBO started getting overheating issues with the MOSFET and I had to replace it. I got an Asus Crosshair V Formula-Z as a replacement motherboard not too long ago and installed it in my computer. At the same time I figured I would get a new chassis because I was tired of not having much room inside so I got a Thermaltake Core V71 (which is absolutely awesome if you didn't know) along with a new PSU because I wanted to do some upgrades in the future, so I got an Antec EDGE 650 W. Ever since I put everything together I have been having freezing issues where the screen, sound, mouse and keyboard lock up.

At first I thought it was just my GPU being really bad (don't know what the GPU was) because it was getting to some ridiculous temps (70-80 C) while playing games on the lowest settings. I've always wanted to upgrade my GPU so I just bought a Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 with 2 Cougar CF-V12HPB fans to both upgrade my old GPU and airflow through the case. With the 3 pre-installed fans on the GTX 970 and the new 120's I was sure that there were going to be zero overheating issues.

So I install my new components yesterday and load up some games to test out this new GPU, all of a sudden 30 minutes in (if even) my computer freezes again! I am extremely upset to see this because of buying these new components (however, I did want them anyway :p). I started up my computer again and decided to check out what was going on, put Open Hardware Monitor on one monitor and played some Fallout New Vegas on the left. Again, it freezes, here is a picture I took of all the temps and loads while the computer was frozen with the top two temps being the motherboard:

At this point I new it wasn't overheating, therefore it must be a hardware issue somewhere. I tried reseating my RAM and updating drivers, the only driver was one for my brand new video card. But then, when I went to shut down my computer to apply the changes I got this error:

Turned my computer back on thinking it might have been just the drivers not being updated, but nope. Still doesn't work.

At this point I decided it was time to do some research. I found a couple similar people having the same problem but never any solved issues. I ran MemTest last night while I was sleeping to see if I could find out if that's the problem, but I turned my monitors off since my computer is in my room and I need darkness to sleep.. When I woke up this morning I couldn't wake my monitors up, saying that there was no signal. I assume that it just meant the computer froze during the test at some point last night. Turned it back on and everything was the same still. Im going to run MemTest again tomorrow while I'm at work so I can see if the monitors are frozen with errors on the MemTest when I get back.

It's very odd because it seems like it happens more often when I'm playing a game then anything, with my old GPU it would even happen when I was just surfing the web... The only thing I can think of is RAM or HDD, and if it's one of those I really hope its the RAM since I'd like to upgrade that to 16 GB anyway.. If anyone knows anything that could help me in this situation it would be greatly appreciated

Computer Specs:
Antec EDGE 650 W
Asus Crosshair V Formula-Z
AMD FX-9590
Gigabyte GTX 970 G1
Kingston HyperX blu 8 GB (2x4 GB)
Seagate 2 TB

Where do you see that? The specs say it is a 220 W processor and all the PSU calculators I've used say I should have a 550 W recommended PSU. Also, before I got the new PSU it worked perfectly fine (that is before the MOSFET started overheating), and that was a 400 W

Yeah, I have water cooling for my CPU. If that is the case wouldn't it have frozen when I had my 400 W PSU too? Also, correct me if I'm wrong but wouldn't most PSU issues just shut off the computer rather then a freezing issue?

Hi all,

I know its been a long time but I've been really busy with school and work so haven't had too much time to look into my computer more. I decided to take Tradesman1's advice and get a bigger and better PSU. I went with the Corsair HX1000i but I am still having issues.

At this point I'm pretty frustrated, does anyone have any idea of what else it could be? I was thinking there might be a chance that its my CPU?

Thanks in advance!
