I have a i3 2130 @ 3.30 Ghz LGA 1155 and want to upgrade CPU so I can play BF4, MOHW, &COD Ghost any help would be nice I have a budget of around $130.00 to maybe $175.00. I have looked at Amazon, Newegg, TigerDirect, & Frys to name a few. I don't understand some of the technical information that is listed. I found a new i5 2400 for $144.00 will this one keep up with games?

Solution
that sounds strange as many have used cpus like the g3258 or current generation i3-4130s and pair with graphics cards sometimes as high as a gtx960/r9-280. many review sites show the g3258 usually coming in at around 85-90% gaming fps performance as i5/i7s even with higher end gpus. the i3-2130 relatively speaking is still no slouch and would only trail a 4130 by about 15% in raw processing performance. compared to the g3258(stock) the hyperthreading of the 2130 would push it slightly ahead in games that can actually use 4 threads since the pentium only has 2. my personal take is that if a light gpu like a 750ti is struggling with an i3 then there are driver conflicts and/or background apps that are hogging up resources.

otherwise...
That is a good price for a left over 2400 .
Just make sure its not a 2400s which runs much slower

It will be a good upgrade for gaming in the titles you mention . Just go to the page for your motherboard on the makers website and find your boards cpu support list . Im sure the 2400 will be listed but check anyway

I went to CPU-Upgrade and typed in my Mobo my rigs spec are as follows:

Mobo: Acer Aspire Predator SG50P.007
CPU: i3 2120 @ 3.3 GHz soon to be i5 2400 @3.1 GHz 6M cache LGA 1155 SROOQ
GPU: PNY 750ti 2GB OC
RAM: 6GB
Current resolution: 1360x768, 60Hz
OS: Windows 10 64bit

I know I need to upgrade my RAM but I'm unsure witch one to get. I know I need DDR3 but not sure what is compatible with my Mobo. Any help here would be nice. I'm also not sure on what I need to do when changing out CPU do I just remove old 1 and put new 1 in and fire up PC or is there more to it like changing Bios setting. CPU-Upgrade said i5 2400 is 95% compatible with my Mobo. Thank for your help on original Q. :) Looking forward to hearing about RAM upgrade. Thanks again!

Is this it?
http://skyline-eng.com/acer-aspire-predator-gateway-dx4860-motherboard-mb-sg50p-007/

I cannot see a cpu support list which must be a first .
Did Acer make a near identical model of your computer with an i5 processor? If they did its very likely you can swap the i5 2400 in and run . Not guaranteed , but very likely

I went to same place I typed in i5 on the page that had mobo on it and they both have the same chipset Intel H67 Express. Different # on board but same board. Look where is say Acer Inc. on the mobo with the magnifying glass same # on board (IPISB-VR REV:1.01) So by that I assume both boards are the same just have different Mobo # from Co. same price too. My board SG50P.007 / i5 board GCCOP.003 I will admit I'm kind-of new when it comes to upgrading a PC but found out I can save alot of $ doing things myself. This is my first PC upgrade I got PC cheep around 125.00 at pawnshop thought it would be good start to learn on, then build the one I really want. So hopefully I have given you better info on mobo. Again ty 4 help.

for gaming only i dont see any cpu upgrade giving you more performs with your setup. if you can find an i5-2400 as suggested for $65-75 then sure go for it i guess. it will help with other non gaming apps. that assuming you can also turn around and sell your i3 for $20-30. otherwise even in something like bf4 multiplayer you only going to gain maybe 5% fps. your cpu upgrade money would be much better spent on a gtx950 over a gtx750ti and you would gain upwards of 30-40% gaming performance.

nikoli707 thanks for help but reason I want to upgrade CPU is when I play Games listed above my current CPU is maxing out at 92%to 96% usage and it shuts my game & GPU down. I was told to get an i5 4 core to help with this problem The only one I can afford and fits my current Mobo is the i5 2400. I'm new to doing work on a PC and I am grateful for any and all suggestion others leave me. Thank you! :)

otherwise $144 is a ridiculous price for an i5-2400. just fine one on ebay used. you shouldn't be paying any more than about $100 for a locked sandy bridge quad core. i5-2300, 2310, 2320, 2400, 2500... they will all work fine for you. the higher the number the higher the core speed.
