I have an old PC with an M2N-MX SE Plus motherboard with integrated Nvidia GeForce 6150SE nForce 430 graphics with 2 x 2gb DDR2 memory chips. I'm running Windows 8.1 but the MS upgrade wizard says the graphics card will not support Windows 10.

I'd like to upgrade to Windows 10 at minimal cost so would appreciate advice as to how I can best achieve this. I assume I'll have to replace the motherboard but is there a suitable integrated board that I can use the DDR2 chips and other existing bits with? Is it possible to install a separate graphics card and somehow disable the exisitng integrated one?

Advice appreciated.

i had that board. threw it in the electronics recycling bin a few months ago. since you have all the hardware and win8.1 installed and running, the cheapest solution is to just try a newer graphics card. buy one on kijiji for $10 or less and see if it works. that board is like 10 years old, so a 5-year-old graphics card should be usable with win10.

The M2N-MX SE Plus card has integrated graphics i.e. it does not have a separate graphics card so I don't see how I can install a new card I think it has to be a new motherboard?

Ah Ha! Now I'm getting there. So now I need to find a card compatible with the ASUS motherboard and Windows 10 compliant? So any idea how I figure out which card I should buy? Any recommendations?

i wouldn't buy anything new or mail order unless you get no tax and free shipping. i'd limit my experimenting to what you can find used locally, and do a search on whatever card someone is selling and see if you can find Win10 drivers for it. for example, i bought a 9500GT this past summer for $10 used, and an HD2600Pro for maybe $15 used. and i somehow got an HD5830 for $10 because the fan blades were broken off.
