This is my first PC build...EVER, I just started getting into PC's and already want to try to build my own gaming PC. Here is the link for the components: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/rKNJ4D
I think this PC should be able to overclock and play games on? The OS will be used from my old computer (which is windows 8.1 pro) and I will transfer using a bootable usb. Oh, and I won't be playing really intense games, maybe games like minecraft or LoL

Loads better mate.

Well the CPU chupset is a Z97 which does allow for OC abilites, but there eally is no point overclocking on that CPU as it wouldn't make that much of a difference. Minecraft is a light game but even on my i3 I had it was just about playable on medium settings, so if you can stretch your budget a bit more on the CPU then it would be more beneficial. I personally wouldn't get a Seagate HDD as their failure rate is a lot higher than others. If you can get a Hitachi HDD though, they come out on top for least failure rate.

For the motherboard, is the BIOS update mentioned, available?

Wait?, isn't this cpu basically known for its overclocking abilities? (Since its unlocked, because I'm planning on getting the anniversary edition) though i3s are still better on cores?

Yes people have successfully OC'd it to 4+GHz but this CPU has no hyperthreading which is something the 'i' series of Intel CPU's have. Watch this video that helps explain HT > https://youtu.be/wnS50lJicXc

Woah, that sounds awesome! So basically, hyper threading is better than being able to overclock? If both i3 and g3258 have dual cores, would this still be the case?

^ the i3 will eat a Pentium g in games that support more than 2 threads (which is most new stuff)

A pentium g+750ti will not come close to an hyper threaded i3 +gtx 950 seriously!!!

Redid the build to remove any board update requirements etc .

Isn't minecraft single thread? And LoL double?

Primarily yes but there are always windows background tasks running.
I'm trying to point you in a better direction - the pentium nowadays is a waste of money - its too restrictive.
With an i3+a gtx 950 for the same money as your planned build you will have a system that can play ANY game title currently available - something that your original combo cannot.
As a hobbyist chip the pentium is OK butbif you're really intent on over clocking then you'd be better looking at the amd 860k (the i3 would still take preference to me though )
