I have a Corsair GS800 power supply in a computer that I rely upon for business. During POST it spins incredibly fast, and then stops very shortly thereafter. I just want a simple answer to this question: How can I ensure the fan is in fact running 100% of the time my PC is powered up and running?

The basic question has been asked here before, but I've only seen non-answers and individual opinions in response. In the interest of keeping this clutter free for me and everyone else that stumbles here seeking out information on this, please don't post opinions on this PSU, options for "better" PSUs, advisements to upgrade, or inquiries and/or speculations about other system specs.

Thanks for the two quick replies explaining why the fan operates this way and that there is no way to change this aside from a hardware hack. Much appreciated! :bounce:

The GS800's fan is set to spin up only when the PSU load is more than 20%; Below that, it's components were designed to function without needing a fan. As such, short of resorting to modding the PSU, there isn't a way to set it to always spin up, regardless of the PSU load.

The best you can do without modding the unit itself is to fix a fan such as one from the Corsair SP120 series. on top of it to push air into the PSU.

Solution
The user has no control over the fan speed. The fan control is hardwired into the PSU via a thermistor.

The initial spin-up during POST is to ensure that the fan actually works. During normal use the fan will only turn on when power draw exceeds 200 Watts.

The only way to force the fan to always be on is to ensure that the system is always drawing more than 200 Watts from the PSU.
