Hi I have a Dell Inspiron 5520 which came with a pre-installed Windows 8 (no installation or recovery DVD, no product key). My HD crashed and I had to replace it. I would like to know how can I do to reinstall the windows. The Dell is out of warranty and I do not live in the US or Canada, so I am looking for a way to do it only by connection through the internet. Thanks.

Internet connection will only work if you are on your own network and have a image of your original windows 8 stored on a network Drive. If you do not have that then internet connection is pointless without an OS. Best to Contact Dell and have them ship you a set of recovery disks. Once you have everything set up, it's always good to make your own set as a back up.... But without an image, recovery partition or a recovery disk, you won't be able to load Windows 8

The product key label is inside the battery compartment. Which Win OS you have there? I can help you to find generic Win ISO, which you can burn on DVD and use this key to instal. If you PC was shipped with Win 7 you have a sticker there for sure, if really Win 8, this is too bad, because WIn 8 key is embedded into UEFI BIOS, look here for more info, it might help http://www.eightforums.com/installation-setup/14464-how-re-install-windows-8-oem-version.html

I know about Digital River story - I have found one USA, I think, server which holds bunch of LEGAL WIN OS downloads, not bootlegs, I seen Win Vista, 7 and 8 there.

How often you look in battery compartment, under battery, I think, for a product key sticker? I just would like to know, if OP has one there, and if it there, does OP has Win key on it?

I am a certified computer technician that owns a retail computer store that has been in business for 13 years. I am aware of where a sticker could be. But without disks, the COA means nothing. If it's windows 8, as OP stated it came with, it's tied to the MoBo anyways, sticker not needed. I am also a Microsoft Registered Refurbisher, and as such, I would have to say your random USA server holding "legal" win OS downloads is sketchy at best but I will leave it at the discretion of the OP to load something from some server. Paying a couple bucks and getting the disk from the manufacturer is usually worth it in the long run anyways.
