I need a 1TB or preferably 2TB portable external hard drive to take back and forth between my college and my home literally every day. I may be travelling by bike, so durability is important. The speed is important as well since I need to work from it with fairly demanding programs; I'm not just backing up data or storing word documents or pictures. Finally, I'm willing to spend $200 if I need to, but SSD prices are out of the question.
-Is there any point to considering purchasing a retail HDD and external enclosure separately? Would I be able to attain a higher speed than a retail portable drive, or is everything just going to be bottlenecked by the usb connection anyways?
Would the durability suffer since that's not the drive's intended purpose?
-Is there a portable hard drive that you would recommend over others?
-Are there any carrying cases that would be worth investing in? Most just look like cheap fabric bags.
Thanks in advance
