Hey everyone this is actually my first time ever asking a question on here even though ive used the sites for a few years now!
Alright I here recently decided that I want to network or hardwire or whatever you want to call it my house.

I have little to no experience in this is the only problem.
When we first built the house I ran a cat5e cable to every room and had a phone line face plate hook to it.
Now with how popular internet has become and how much me and the others in the house use it I am wanting to hardwire all these rooms.

I have a 2 store house, I am wanting 3 rooms (possibly 4) which 2 are upstairs and the others down.
I have all my wires ran out to my garage so would that mean I would put the switch out there?
What kind of switch do I need? I'm sorry if this isn't enough information or worded poorly. If you need more than what I've told here just comment asking what ya need.

A simple unmanaged switch with enough port so you can plug everything you want in at the same time. I would guess a 8 port switch will do. If money is a issue you can use 10/100 but 10/100/1000 switches are only a small amount more.

I would hope you don't actually have "phone" face plates but rather RJ45.

You will also need to find a way to hook your internet connection/router to the switch in the garage otherwise you get a network in your house that only talks to machines in the house.

No disagreement with or disrespect intended with regards to the previous reponses.

I do have a question about the cables going to the garage: do they terminate in a patch panel or with RJ45 connectors? And you will need power in the garage for the modem, router, and switch (at least) if they are located out there. And the space should have some ventilation to keep everything cool if so. Is the area "protected" from things like moisture, pets, insects, kids toys (and kids getting access), leaves blowing in etc...?

Feel I need to ask as I am sure bill001g and kanewolf both understand what can happen down the road if it all gets "messy". Thanks.
