Hi guys,
Recently I've come across a problem with my FX 8350 where the temps on startup will be around 50 degrees Celsius and will continue to rise to 60 when idle. I wanted to see how it would be like on load and it rose only 5-10 degrees( hitting 75 degrees max). Right now, Im extremely worried and was thinking it may be the thermal paste.

Anyway, please can you recommend me a course of action in the short term and something in the long term. I know the AMD stock cooler are crap and will replace it with a phanteks tc-12dx rd( so it goes with my build).

here's my pc's spec:
FX 8350
MSI 970 Gaming mobo
Msi r9 285
xfx 550 watt psu

Thank you guys in advance.

Where do you live and what's the weather been like (and is the computer in a room with air conditioning)? Since the room temperature is the "floor" of how low the CPU can get, that can make your temps vary quite a bit. If you were in Southern California, for example, then you'd be starting out with a minimum temperature close to 40C during the day lately, and idling near 50C would not be unusual, especially with a moderate overclock. The fact that it doesn't go up all that much under load makes it seem like there's nothing necessarily wrong with the setup overall, although replacing the stock cooler certainly couldn't hurt.

Okay for now, as long as your temps dont exceed 75/80C you should be alright. I'd definitely recommend a good aftermarket cpu cooler such as cooler master hyper 212 evo. Also, can you tell me how many fans you have and how you've set them up? What's your cable management like?

I have a bitfenix neos so it is quite cramped. The cable management is alright, everything is stuffed at the bottom of he case. I have two fans at the front as intake and one rear exhaust that stays near max rpm.

I was thinking of getting a phanteks tc12dx rd because it'll go with my rig but I can't find my motherboard in the compatibility list. I have a msi 970 gaming mobo.

Thanks. I live in the UK where it's pretty cool. I've tried cleaning out my PC and it has decrease my temps and is cooler. I found a solution which is to set my voltage at 1.35v instead of leaving it at auto in the bios. This has helped, but I'm getting a cpu cooler so I can overclock. Thank you guys for your support.
Just want to ask, what is the best cpu cooler under £40 for the msi 970 gaming mobo. It needs to be cool and quite. I will also like it to be red but if that's not possible, I'll sacrifice some noise for better cooling. Again, thanks.

Ok thanks. Looks like I speaked too soon. the temps still do idle around 40-50. So Im going to get a new cooler. But I have one question, i can sometimes smell a strange burning smell and i tried to identify what it is but Im still not sure.

check your PSU for that burning smell. your gpu draws 190W underload(not max/stressed) +your mobo +hdd etc, maybe the power supply is trying to deliver the maximum wattage.
