CPU Hitting 100°C When Playing Demanding Games And Very High Temp When Doing Nothing

Ok so recently I upgraded my PC. I got a 750W PSU and a EVGA GTX 970 FTW. I asked on different forums if my CPU would be able to keep up when playing very demanding games at max graphics. (My CPU is an AMD A8 6600k) people said no and I just ignored them knowing they are probably wrong and guess what they are. I can play any game at max settings no problem. The problem is that my CPU goes to about 97°C when I play something for about an hour. Right now I have Min 50°C and max 70°C. All I have open is Steam, Skype, Google Chrome and HWMonitor. So is this a correct Temp or is this too hot and if its too hot what can I do?

Also I have another question:
Motherboard = MSI A78M-E35
Can I put an Intel i7 in there?
For example: Intel Core i7 4790K / 4 GHz processor

Solution
You cannot put Intel chips on AMD motherboards or vice-versa.

With a properly installed remotely good heatsink, your CPU should not reach anywhere near 100C under full load. Even 80C is generally considered uncomfortably hot.

I'd recommend you buying a better cooler, those stock AMD coolers are very bad and sound like jet engines, my friend has an A8 6600K and his is always running over 50ºC, he's getting a better cooler soon, it's also very loud no matter what game he plays.

For reference purposes, he uses a Sapphire HD 7950 3GB GDDR5

Also: No you can't use Intel Processors on AMD motherboards.

I've always found you can't go wrong with Corsair enclosed system water coolers if you case will support the installation of one. I only use Cooler Master HAF cases and I never have an issue getting them installed.

Like someone said, the Noctua NH-D14 is a great air cooler to pick up. Also the Hyper 212 is a very good air cooler. You can go AIO water cooler system but you have to make sure you have space for the radiator in your case.

Even with that chip you should be sitting around 32c at idle and load should be around 70c depending on the ambient temp of the room and how good the air flow is in your case.

It should fit as it is made to work with the FM2 socket, and those are standardized to fit any motherboard (in most cases anyways).

What case do you have?

If you aren't planning to do heavy overclocking, a simple and inexpensive 212+/EVO/X would also get the job done quite well.

Even the stock cooler should not let your CPU temperature reach 100C when installed properly, so something must have gone wrong - unless you are using something worse than the stock HSF.

Yogi im not really to interested with water cooling and I would rather buy a new motherboard and CPU than do that. because it means spending a bit of money and having to keep this CPU.

I could do that but how much would it help? Also can you send me a link to a good thermal paste (I don't care how much it is)

My PC is pretty new and has the stock cooler but I forgot to say my CPU is actually overclocked to 4.2 GHz from 3.9GHz. Thanks for the recommendation but I couldnt find it on amazon. Can you send me a UK link to where I can buy it?
