Hi all,
I know this has been asked somewhat before but it still seems unanswered with dead links. I have a 2.5 Raidon Runner enclosure with two 1TB hard drives installed. I set it up as RAID1 and filled the drive (931GB).

How can I verify the data I installed on the visible drive is identical to the second, hidden drive?
Thanks all,
Phil

You might be able to tear the enclosure apart and verify each disk (if you can get them to mount), but generally you have to trust the RAID controller. If it says the volume is healthy then both halves of the mirror have the same data.

But RAID isn't the same as backups. This RAID1 shouldn't be the only copy of irreplaceable data. RAID only protects against drive failure. There are LOTS of other reasons data is lost.

Thanks for this great advice Kanewolf. I have copied all the files onto a large 6TB 3.5 drive and wanted to delete the first two and use them again for a new copy-batch. Now I think I will keep one of those two RAID1 drives as a backup. They are installed in an external so easy to remove the drives.
