Hey guys. So as you see title, I am debating between an i5 6600k, or 4690k. The 6600k needs the new motherboards that support ddr4 memory. I'm not going to pay like 150 dollars for a mobo, and 100 bucks for ddr4 memory. The 4690k supports ddr3 memory in which I currently have. I want to upgrade from my amd fx 6300. The i5 6600k performs better than the 4690k. But the 4690k will be a lot more budget friendly.

Thanks for the support.

What RockyPlays said is spot on, DDR4 and a negligibly better processor will not translate into much tangible improvement in performance, it is not like going from a DDR2 based system to a DDR3 based one. Between my DDR3 computer and DDR4 computer, having used my 780Tis in each one, the performance difference isn't something I really noticed at all in terms of DDR4 vs DDR3. Same deal with the processors, the difference in games between my 4770K and i7 960 when equipped with a GTX 780 was so small that it was not something I tangibly could point at and say "wow, 4770K is so much better!", same deal with my 5930K vs my 4770K; I'm sure it's the same between a 4690K and 6600K. 4690K should be good for a long time and give you plenty of CPU horsepower. for games as well.

Not a huge difference, although if you haven't built a pc yet personally I'd go with the 6600K, if not only to get on a newer platform. It's not a gigantic price difference, although performance will definitely be similar.

Depends on your needs. If all you want to do is gaming then get the i5, but if you want to do video editing/rendering and livestreaming or recording, I recommend the xeon as it is basically a locked i7 for much cheaper.
