i saw comparison between the gtx 960 and r9 280 on youtube and gtx 960 was giving higher fps than r9 280.

the R9 will give you performance but will require more power and will create more heat. Now, the GTX is a new architecture, not as powerful as the R9 but it runs cooler, power efficient. So, it depends what route you want to take.
