I put 4gb ram on my pc but only 2gb usable

I run on windows7 ultimate 64bit. This is my first build and the specs are:
AMD a6-6400k processor
Gigabyte GA-F2A68HM-DS2 motherboard
powercolor r7 240 gpu
2 x 2GB DDR3 1333 Memory
I disabled the integrated graphics because someone didn't recommend it because of limited driver support. I tried changing the maximum memory on boot advanced options but everytime i put in a number higher than 2048 then pressed ok it went back to 2048 before closing. I researched more and someone said that it was because of my processor's built in gpu and that i could change it in UEFI/BIOS but i couldn't understand how to do it. can someone tell me how and is it advisable to do so?

i was hoping for an easy fix, changing OS seems a bit too much. the only program that recognizes that i have 4gb ram is the cpu-z. other hardware detection programs always lists 2gb.. anyaway thanks for the advice :)

To disable the on-board graphics in your system's BIOS visit the Peripherals tab and choose GFX Configuration. Ensure Primary Video Device is set to either NB PCIe Slot or PCI Slot. Also ensure Integrated Graphics is set to Disabled.

If you have a discrete video card, the R7, you can disable the on-board graphics with no ill effects.

I disabled the integrated graphics which was set to auto and the primary video device was already in the NB PCIe Slot but still my PC only recognizes 2gb installed memory. I read on another forum that it's because windows 7 64bit requires 2gb ram, i dont know it that's the case or it's stupid :D

What RAM slots on the board are you using? Have you tried moving the RAM to different slots? Also it can be a timing issue in the BIOS. Before we go there though, try moving the RAM around on the board. You have 4 slots and 2 RAM chips. Ignore the conventional wisdom right now of using matching channels. Try each stick in each slot and see the results. It will take a while but may resolve the issue.

Leave that at 0 and make sure it's unchecked.

All memory is rcognized i the bios?

yeah i left it unchecked after i couldn't put a number higher than 2048. How to tell if all memory is recognized in the bios? :??:

there are only 2 ram slots in my motherboard i think. i'll try switching their places sometime

I had similiar issue with A8-7600 and A88X chipset ... I think what finally helped me after I tried anything guys recommend was taking my CPU out and then seating it again. My MB probably recognized HW "change" and everything was working after that.

EDIT: btw, up to 1GB of RAM can be used by APU

You go into the bios and see if it says that 4gb is installed.

Reseating the cpu is something to try,but make sure you have fresh paste at home because that will need to be reapplied.
