Hello,

I will be buying a gaming headset in the next couple of days and I'm having this problem here https://discussions.apple.com/message/28888742#28888742.

That looks like a recent Mac Mini. It's a little more complicated, and the answer may depend upon the particular headset. It has a line audio input, which would need an amplified microphone but wouldn't work with a normal one, and a combined audio out/mic in port, which works with an iPhone headset. I don't honestly know if a normal headset microphone would work there.

The easiest solution is a USB or bluetooth headset.

I just wanted to know whether or not i needed the splitter or if the ports on the back of the mac would be fine

It's a joiner, not a splitter. Most Macs have a single audio port for input and output (but it varies by model, so it's impossible to be precise). You need the joiner to convert the two plugs on the headset into a single plug for the Mac. Or you could just buy a USB, wireless, or bluetooth headset.

Thanks for your help-

Heres some information about the mac mini's in and out audio ports:
Audio line in mini-jack (digital/analog)
Audio line out / headphone mini-jack (digital/analog)

And the headset (Logitech G130)(http://www.msy.com.au/peripherals/5359-logitech-g130-981-000530-gaming-headset-g130.html):
3.5 mm jacks
Analog connection with 3.5 mm input and output jacks
