Bluetooth connectivity question: Can two devices be active for Bluetooth at the same time?

I use a bluetooth headphone for both my smartphone and my laptop. Do I need to turn Bluetooth off of one device to effectively use the headphone with the other?

I wouldn't expect that. I've done some experiments on shutting off bluetooth on my phone and turning it again to assure myself of its continuing problem free pairing of my current headset and the phone. I think that if I have both the PC and the phone's bluetooth enabled at the same time there would be interference in the bluetooth pairing of either. Is that quite probable?
