The time on my desktop randomly changes. Do I need a new CMOS battery? Also a BIOS Question.

Hello!

I built a new PC summer of 2014 and something I've noticed is the time always randomly changes while the PC is on and NEVER boots up with the correct time. To deal with this problem I've had the Internet Time Settings window up so whenever I notice it changed I can simply click update now and have the time synced again for up to an hour before it changes again.

I've done some digging around and think that my CMOS battery could be the culprit, so I went out and bought a new one just in case I should replace it instead of taking the original out and then putting it back in.

When I built my PC, I did not do anything in the BIOS. I've read that once you reset/replace your CMOS battery then you should configure the BIOS for your system, but when I built the PC I never touched the BIOS, so does that mean I won't need to fiddle with the BIOS when I replace my CMOS battery? I've avoided doing anything with the BIOS because I never read up on it. Should I be making changes to it?

PC SPECS:

Windows 8.1 64-bit
GTX 770
Intel i5 4670k @ 3.40GHz
8GB RAM
240GB SSD
ASUS MAXIMUM VI HERO Motherboard

Okay! I'll keep that in mind. I have read about many instances where either replacing the battery or taking it out, waiting about 5 minutes, then putting it back in could fix things. What you said will be the worst case scenario I suppose. What about BIOS settings? Is it okay if I leave them alone and basically never touch them? Even after changing the CMOS battery?
