Hello,

I have recently moved into my uni house and we have all been experiencing problems with the Internet at some point. Firstly, we have 2 wireless networks we can connect to. One is called "EE-3030303" and the other is called "5G-EE-3030303"

We noticed they both allow you to "connect" but only the 5G one gives you Internet access and works as it should so we're not sure what the there network is for.

My issue is I have just set up my pc and I cannot find the 5G network, only the "broken" one. I can detect other neighbours networks too and I am on my mobile phone connected to the 5G network so I am sure my pc should be able to pick it up so I'm sure I'm in physical range of the WiFi.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

EDIT - my flat mate also said she had trouble connecting with her IPad. Not sure if she should detect the network at all but I will ask her in the morning When's she's awake

Both are the same router/network, just that the 5G uses the 5Ghz frequency, and the other uses the older 2.4Ghz frequency. It's better to connect to the 5Ghz frequency when you want possibly higher speeds and less wireless interference, and if you need long range connect to the 2.4Ghz frequency network. Are you sure your PC has a wireless card that works with the 5Ghz standard?

It's a very old wireless card so I'm going to say no...

But what youre saying is the 2.4ghz should still work like normal so in my case I'll need to contact my land lord?

The other must be the 2.4 GHz frequency which should have greater range and signal strength. The 5GHz frequency is presently less subject to interference from various other devices, not just neighboring Wi-Fi setups. It sounds like you are setting things up as you should but need to add the other frequency. Does your Wi-Fi PC application show signal strengths?

Like I said. I connect to it and it shows I'm connected but it doesn't work. No Internet access, no notifications come through on my mobile. This is a problem with all other 9 flat mates and our mobiles hence why we have all been connected to the 5G one since that's the only one that is working for us
