So I've had my Lenovo Y50-70 for a few months now. I normally play Company of Heroes 2 and Insurgency if I'm playing anything. However I've been getting a bizarre issue with either the GPU, the CPU or both. I'll be playing and the fps will be around 70-150, and then it will drop to 20-40 fps, and the gpu will only be using 50%, sometimes a bit more. Other times the screen will go black and the GPU or the CPU will drop to O%.

If anyone can help me out it would be a HUGE help. This has been driving me nuts.

I will be sure to award best answer.

Yah they should be able to. But what you are describing sounds like textbook throttling of the CPU, the game runs fine at first but as soon as its starts to get hot the cpu throttles lowering its clock speed, this will cause the cpu to not be able to keep up with the gpu which is why gpu usage drops. If you have CPU-Z installed just look at core speed while you game if you see it drop significantly when the frame rate dip occurs then your cpu is overheating, get a can of compressed air and blow dust out of the heatsink, or if you feel...

Rarely above 70 C. Usually Mid to upper 60's. I've read that temps into the 80s are fine.

It doesn't if you have a second monitor just put it on that if not just put your game in windowed mode or borderless windowed mode and press alt+tab while playing tthis will minimize the game but leave it still running so you can check cpu z.

Just in case anyone stumbles upon this thread in google, I've found out months later that this issue is unique to source engine games with some computers, which is why I kept experiencing it with insurgency. I have yet to find a full fix, though I've seen other people suggest adding "-nominidumps" to the launch settings on the game in steam. Overall the Y50-70 laptop is a piece of junk, and I would caution anyone from buying it.
