Hello everyone!

I'm thinking of buying a MSI 170A Krait gaming motherboard and Kingston HyperX Predator PCIe SSD 240GB.
At PCPartPicker there is a note about threir compatibility: "The motherboard M.2 slot #0 shares bandwidth with SATA 6.0 Gb/s ports. When the M.2 slot is populated, two SATA 6Gb/s ports are disabled."
I do not need these two SATA ports, so no problem here. But I got confused with the phrase "shares bradwidth with SATA 6.0 Gb/s ports". What does it mean exactly? Doesn't it actually mean that the SSD speed will be limited (it's original speed is up to 1400Mb/s read and 1000Mb/s write)?
There is also an option to get this SSD with HHHL adapter which can be used if no sufficient M.2 port is present. If I choose this option, will it change anything (besides having those SATA 6.0 Gb/s ports free)? Will it possibly have any influence on the SSD maximum speed perfomance?
To put it simply, my questions are:
1) If I use an M.2 slot on MSI 170A Krait gaming motherboard for Kingston HyperX Predator PCIe SSD 240GB will the SSD be able to perform around its highest speed or will its speed be limited?
2) If I use a PCIe slot (with an HHHL adapter) on MSI 170A Krait gaming motherboard for Kingston HyperX Predator PCIe SSD 240GB will the SSD be able to perform around its highest speed or will its speed be limited?

Hi,

1- No, you will not see speed reductions, the reason it says that is to keep away drive order issues. The motherboard does not want other ssd's or hdd's on the sata port 1 and 2 to interfere with the boot order and has disabled them when the M2 is in use

2- An M2 drive with HHHL on pcie slot, is a very neat option, but the drive performance will not go up, it will stay the same as the manufacturer mentioned on the drive

As far as the drive working at its highest speed, please note that the speeds manufacturers mention is sequential read/write speed (its when data is aligned in a sequence) but more often than not, data is randomly written a round the disk, so dont fret if you notice a lil low speed. Speed also depends on the...

Speed also depends on the number of files and individual size of the file.

Good Luck and have fun
