I currently want to swap my pc case from the dell insipiron 545 to a NZXT or Thermaltake.

Many people say that dell makes wierd cases for a specific type of motherboard.

Solution
Only possible problem might be the front panel connector (if it's single leads, it will likely work, if it's combined plug, layout might be different and cause problems)
Mainboard mounting holes and PSU wiring I wouldn't see as a problem since in worst case, PSU could be moved also and as far as I know, Dell is still sticking to standard mounting hole positions.

Best bet would be to open said Dell case and look inside if there is anything "custom" in there to begin with.

Edit:
googling for images for the Dell case, it seems pretty standard ATX case on the outside so as long as you move the connector backplate too, I really see no reason why you couldn't change the case. (provided there are no custom things on front panel connectors)
