BSOD INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE when trying to overclock RAM

Hey,

I bought 2 4GB stick which should run at 2400MHZ using XMP profile. Unfortunately, I am only running them on default speed ("auto" mode in UEFI BIOS) - 1600Mhz. I wouldnt mind, but I have integrated graphics card which is using RAM and so bandwitdth is important for me. I already tried to use different slots, updated MB firmware. Do you think it is problem with MB? I would like to try everything I can before I buy another.

My configuration:

MB: ASUS A88X-GAMER (with latest bios from asus.com)
CPU: AMD A8-7600 with Zalman aftermarket cooler
RAM: 2x4GB DDR3 Kingston HyperX Predator 2400Mhz
SSD: Samsung 850 EVO 120GB
HDD: 1TB WD GREEN
CASE: CM Silencio 452
PSU: FPS 400W Aurum S
OS: Windows 10 Pro legal

Overclocking RAM on AMD boards can be hit or miss. They sometimes just cannot hit the high speeds. It could be the power delivery from the motherboard or the actual RAM controller in the CPU or some combination of those and the idiosyncrasies of your RAM.

Tom's has an article that mentions some of the difficulty of using high speed RAM with FX cpus. Your steamroller APU is probably very similar.

The problem is I am not sure why OS can't access my drives? It can boot to advanced settings or how they call it now with W8/W10 but during usual boot I don't see any HDD activity and after some time trying Windows gives up and throws BSOD.

I would understand BSODs related to memory or system unstability .... And both my memory and motherboard should run at 2400 without problems.
 
The problem as you have described is with your RAM. Your OS will throw random(ish) errors due to corruption because your RAM cannot handle the overclock.

The official specs for your APU list 2133 as the maximum RAM speed. A careful overclock might get you the speed you want, but there are no guarantees.

The problem is I cant even "overclock" my ram to 2133Mhz ... Simply any other value than "auto" in BIOS will give me BSOD. My friend has almost sam HW and runs at 2400Mhz without problems and unstability.

Also the BSOD I get is always the same. Are you sure it cant be result of some problems with OS?
 
I understand your post to say that your computer works fine when using "auto" settings for RAM and BSOD's when overclocking your RAM. If that's not the case, you could have some other problem, but if I have understood you correctly, the problem is the RAM. There might not be any problem with the RAM itself, but your system cannot handle the overclock.
Hardware that is "almost" the same can be very different. In fact, even the same parts will have different overclocking capabilities. Just because it works for someone else does not mean it will work for you.

I just played a little bit with older BIOS versions and I managed to OC my RAM with version 4004. Its rather strange and random behaviour but it finally works now.
