Can I use my existing GPU power cable with new card?

Is it imperative that I replace the power cable I already have connected to the PSU when installing a new graphics card even if it is the same? That being one 6 pin and one 8 pin power connector. I'd prefer to not have to dig around inside my computer more than I have to since I clearly don't know just what in the hell I'm doing. It would be nice to just get the new card, take out the old one and connect it without hassle.

So you're saying I don't have to disconnect it from my PSU then? Well that's good. Now I have little chance of ruining everything with my incompetence!

No you shouldn't have to as long as the cables work and aren't damaged you should be fine.
