Dear members of Tom's Hardware,

Today I received my new mobo (asus rog hero viii) and my new processor (6600k).

I have installed it, and I am writing from my (partly) new pc now.

I also have 2x r9 290 tri-x in the case, but these don't produce any heat when idle.

What I have noticed is that a lot of people get low idle temps for this processor (around 24-30 degrees). So my question is, what the problem is and why my cpu is at 32 degrees while sitting and doing nothing.

Is it a bad temp? Can I still overclock my CPU?
Please don't advise me to buy another cooler as I just bought this cooler a month ago...

Thanks in advance.

Those temps are very good. Yah it should be safe to overclock as long as your power supply can handle it. Make sure you do some reading on overclocking skylake before you try it.

Well its only about 10 degrees over ambient I wouldn't really worry about it. What are you temps under load? If they are too high then I would assume either the cooler was not installed properly or you used too much or too little thermal paste.

Can the problem be, that when I installed the CPU, I kinda did it wrong(no not the side with the chips etc.), as in the top off the CPU got a little bit damaged (on the flaps on the left and the right, they have a little notch in them). I read on the internet that that shouldn't affect anything, but I wanted to ask just to be sure.

What can I best use to stresstest my cpu?

At the default test my temp hang at 45 degrees
Your test ran for about 7 minutes, and it hangs at around 49-50 degrees, is that good considering I have an expensive aftermarket cooler, or is it high?
Is it safe to overclock my cpu?

Okay, that's really reassuring, considering I came stepped over to intel from AMD FX8350 with ASrock fatal1ty 990fx mobo, which was idling at around 40-42 degrees Celsius. Thanks for the input, I chose your answer as the best.

Safe temperatures for a 6600k under heavy load can even be as high as 70 C, once you exceed that is where I'd dial it back. Higher voltages and temperatures will lower the lifespan of your chip or lead to other stability issues down the line.
