My current system is running on a GTX 750 Ti Superclocked 4gb graphics card, and its been great for gaming on a budget PC build, but recently i have managed to spare some cash and buy myself an ASUS GTX 980 Ti STRIX graphics card. My first question is a) Is it possible to run an SLI configuration with a GTX 750 Ti and a GTX 980 Ti, and b) Will it increase performance over a system using just a 980 Ti or will it cause problems, hindering overall performance, and c) is it worth it?

Solution

This is true but in most cases it isn't going to be worth it. Having the 2nd card is going to introduce extra latency, increase power consumption, and add additional fan noise. There are sparse PhysX games and even ones that are have issues. Borderlands 2 has serious crashing with PhysX set to high or greater.

It would be a far better idea to sell the card now while it's still worth some money. Using it to gain a frame or two with a host of...

You can't run them in SLI but you could use that 750ti as a dedicated PhysX card for certain games like Batman/Borderlands series. I had a 780/750ti setup previously and noticed around a 7 FPS increase and about 3-4C lower temp on my main GPU (For those games that use PhysX).

Am i not able to run the two cards in an SLI configuration with DX 12? or are different series cards completely incompatible?

You can't SLI those two cards, as everyone else has already mentioned. If you remove the 750, which is what I would do, then you have three options:

1) sell the card for a little bit of extra cash

2) give the card to a friend

3) keep the card as a backup

Doesn't matter what DX12 offers. Nvidia can and probably will make it unable to SLI different cards. You can only SLI the same card with the same amount of vram.

With different VRAM amounts I wouldn't think SLI is possible even with DX12. Just sell the 750ti and stick with the single GPU.

No one knows for sure whether or not this will be possible yet. DX 12 is supposed to support this and even AMD + Nvidia but then again it's going to awhile before we even start seeing a good amount of DX 12 based games.
