Should I change anything about this build? Entry - Mid level gaming rig

Nice rig but a little unbalanced. You have said it is for gaming but what are you playing and at what settings?

Normally I say drop the Z97 motherboard down to an H97 or even lower. You have no need or use for the Z97 feature set with a locked processor. That said, looking at the prices, that'd save you about 5 quid at most so why bother.

Depending on what you are trying to play and at what settings, it'd be nice to get you into a 950 or 960 if possible. That would cost you another 20 or so quid by the looks of it.

Yah I would have put an H97 board In my suggestion but most were pretty much the exact same price as z97 were he lives so I just kept it z97.

There is no such thing as an unlocked i3. And honestly for the money I think the 950 is the better choice it performs very nearly as well as the 960 in a lot of games.

Dammit, I was sure they made an unlocked i3, a well, learn something new every day...
Looking at gameplay, I agree that the 950 is similar to the 960, but the 4Gb of ram could be very usefull in the near future even at 1080p, GTA V already uses a lot more than 2Gb at high/ultra settings at 1080p. If you plan to upgrade next year or so, go with the 950, but if you plan to go without upgrades for longer, then I tent to lean closer toward the 960 4Gb edition

Well I dont mean contradict everything you say. But I dont really like the 4gb 960 as it only has a 128bit memory bus to transport that 4gb thats like trying to shove a basketball threw a drinking straw. It has been shown in benchmarks that the 4gb version does not perform better than the 2gb version even when you exceed 2gb of vram the reason being it cant move the VRAM efficiently its a bottleneck if you will, its like a traffic jam there are two many cars for the road to handle so everything slows down. I think the 4gb version is a bit of a gimmick. See for yourself the only game where the 4gb version showed a notable improvement was min fps in assassins creed unity.

I was originally going to get an i3, but I felt that as I'll be using this for some light video editing and music creation, I would go with an i5. Especially considering modern games like Battlefield 4 taking advantage of quad core CPUs, and it's much easier to upgrade a GPU than CPU

Didn't know about the editing and music creation, in that case.definetely go with an i5, the extra cores will do wonders. The gtx 950 is as he who came before me (sorry using mobile site and can't see your name while I type) said, a very good price to performance card. Good luck with your build
