100 mbps instead of 1000mbps

So i've tested without the router directly from my fiber ethernet output (wall) to my pc and i get my 250mbps that i pay for, but when i connect my router Netgear R6100 AC1200 suddenly my local area connection drops to 100mbps? i use cat5e it works i've seen it but with the router it struggles

And the Netgear WAN port is rated for?

Have you checked your link speed? A bad network cable may be causing your Ethernet to drop to 100Mb instead of 1Gb.

im so stupid ty but a wierd thing is im still getting 100/100 through the router lol is that normal? and can i do anything about it buy a 1gbps switch but still use the router to or something?

The router will limit your internet connection to 100Mbps. Get a router with gigabit ports.
