i just installed my r9 290x into my pc i built yesterday and i found out i only have 4 pin, 6 pin, and 2 pin connectors, anyone know what i could use to power it?

Solution
Yes, that's exactly why they make it a 6 + 2 pin ... so they don't have to give you a 6 pin and an 8 pin for that eventuality. The 6 + 2 pin covers both situations.

Be aware that some manufactures make crazy cables....with more connectors on the end than is allowed like a dual Dual 6+2 Pin + Single 6 pin PCI-e Cable ... you don't have to worry about this with your PSU

yeah its just like that thanks, but what about the connector slot next to the 8 pin? is that for cross fire or extra power?

I'm guessing you have a 290x w/ a 6 pin and 8 pin socket.

You will need:

(1) 8-pin PCI-E cable or (1) 6+2 cable
(1) 6 pin cable.

If ya ain't got that you need a new PSU....do not use any cable / adapter that has 8 pins on one end and 8 + 6 on the other.

Here is Guru3D's power supply recommendation:

AMD R9-290X - On your average system the card requires you to have a 550~600 Watt power supply unit.
AMD R9-290X Crossfire - On your average system the cards require you to have a 800 Watt power supply unit as minimum.

If you are going to overclock GPU or processor, then we do recommend you purchase something with some more stamina.
