What is going on with my RAM?

As title says, my RAM has been acting really weird lately. So for the past few months I have been getting constant crashes. After a lot of researching and looking and the windows dump files, it seemed it had to be the RAM. I was running a triple channel with 3x2gb DDR3. So I took one out and ran it in dual channel and it fixed the crashing, but now I have a bigger problem.

At least two times a day my RAM usage and HDD usage just goes out of control. When it happens, my whole computer is basically unusable. Everything just freezes or crashes. So I took screenshots of my RAM usage and it just is not adding up. From what it is showing, its using 5.9/6gb but in the detailed section it is not adding up to 5.9gb So what is going on here? Where is this usage coming from and why is my HDD at 100% usage? Nothing is even running on my computer besides Steam and nothing is downloading on that.

Specs:

  • RAM - G.SKILL 6GB (3 x 2GB)
    Motherboard - MSI 970 Gaming AM3+ AMD 970
    GPU - EVGA GTX 660ti
CPU - AMD FX-8350 Black Edition
HDD - Western Digital Blue 1TB
    SSD - Kingston V300 120GB

I ran Microsoft Security Essentials not too long ago and it found nothing, but I'll give Malwarebytes a try. I will give an update when I am done.

I am going to guess you did not read my post? I clearly mentioned and asked why my HDD was at 100% usage.
