Virgin Media Super hub (router/switch) + WD MyCloud media server + PC Win 7

My Sony Bravia TV looses network connection halfway thru streaming a movie from the WD media server. Streaming the movie via a media server on my PC - same result.

Watching the same movie on a USB flash drive plugged into the TV is fine, I guess that leaves the TV net connection or the router.
I set up both WD Mycloud server and TV with static IPs. Can I connect a network switch uplinked to one of the super hub ports and plug in the media server and TV into the switch so the connection is via the switch - not the hub?

You can but it is unlikely your problem. If you could take apart the super hub box you would find a switch chip, a router chip and one or more radio chips. The switch is in effect connected to the router chip with a cable just as you would connect a single port router to a external switch.

Traffic between the lan ports pass directly between them just like they would on a external switch, the router chip is not involved in the traffic.

So putting another external switch in front of the super hub box should work the same....there could be some strange hardware bug but it is unlikely.

Thanks,
I thought maybe the Superhub was in fact just a hub, in which case the all the traffic is sent to all devices on my network and there might be congestion. I do have loads of wireless stuff around the house - door bells, solar generation meters etc all going via the hub.
However, if the suphub contains a switch as bill001g suggests then I guess adding another one will not change the situation.

I thought maybe I could just connect the TV and media server together via a switch - isolated from all the other devices. Since the WD Mycloud and Win7 media servers both disconnect, I'm beginning to favor the TV as being the problem child.
I just found a switch for £7, so I will buy it and see what happens.

I bought a netgear gigabit switch and my problem disappeared. The Virgin Superhub causes the dropouts!
The TV and WD Media server are now connected to the switch and the switch is connected to the hub. Both TV and media server have static IPs so the data stream never leaves the switch.
