Hi all,

Current specs:
Processor: i5 - 4590
Graphics: GTX 760
250gb SSD
2 TB HD
500 W PSU

From what I have "researched" (I use the term loosely as I am no expert!) the improvement would be quite significant in terms of improved quality and framerates.

I have a budget upto £300 and am in the UK. The PC is used almost exclusively for gaming with a bit of web browsing. I am looking to play games in 1080p, and I am hoping to play the latest games like Witcher 3 in as high quality as I can (not counting hairworks - looks like you need a card outside my price range for that!)

I really like the look of this asus 970 - http://www.ebuyer.com/666705-asus-gtx-970-strix-directcu-ii-oc-4gb-gddr5-dual-dvi-hdmi-strix-gtx970-dc2oc-4gd5.

So:

1. What do you guys think? I've considered radeon cards but am not sure about issues with drivers.

2. I have had no issues at all with my current system with that PSU, would it be safe to assume you think that it would run the 970 without issue?

3. Would there be any issues with bottlenecking with that i5 4590?

Many thanks in advance!

To play at 1080p, the gtx 970 is one of the most recommended cards in these forums. Amd cards drivers are fine and if you want to get one, the 390 would be the one to get. 500w should be enough for gtx 970, but it really comes down the quality of the unit. No bottlenecking should occur with 4th Gen i5.

I'm a little late but if you haven't bought a card already consider the R9 390 instead as it actually beats the 970 in performance while being in the same price range. It also has 8GB of VRAM versus the 970's 3.5GB, which makes it a viable option for future multi-monitor or 4k gaming (you'd need a second card but the 970 simply doesn't have enough VRAM to support ultra settings at those resolutions).

I think it is definitely worth upgrading. I have a gtx 970 myself and it is a pretty nice card. There is also a cheaper option which matches the gtx 970 but for a cheaper price. It's the EVGA Gtx 960 4gb FTW edition. It has 1.3mhz of clock speed. Very nice. The CUDA cores are considerably lower though. Just depends on what impacts your gaming experience more. It's worth researching
